In today’s world, anxiety has become a common struggle for millions of people. I find the most common reason people come to Joyful Life Hypnotherapy is anxiety. Hypnotherapy, instead of pharmaceuticals, is growing in popularity as a treatment because hypnotherapy clears the cause.
Hypnotherapy, often misunderstood as entertainment, is a clinical practice that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness. This process, known as the trance, allows individuals to bypass the Critical Factor and access their subconscious mind. For people with anxiety, this can be a powerful tool to identify and reframe negative thought patterns, program positive thoughts and beliefs, and even create a positive outcome to an adverse event.
One of the reasons hypnotherapy is effective for anxiety is its ability to program positive beliefs,
suggestions, affirmations and clear the root cause of distress. Anxiety often stems from
unresolved trauma, old negative self-perceptions/beliefs, or deeply ingrained fears. As a certified
hypnotherapist, I guide the individual into a relaxed state of mind and body during a
hypnotherapy session. They then can discover the underlying issues in a compassionate, safe,
and nonjudgmental environment. By addressing the source of anxiety directly, clients can gain a new perspective and begin to rewire their responses to stress. The results are profound.
Research supports hypnotherapy’s effectiveness in reducing and even relieving anxiety
symptoms. A 2019 study published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental
Hypnosis found that participants who underwent hypnotherapy experienced significant
reductions in anxiety compared to those who relied solely on traditional cognitive-behavioral
therapy (CBT) or affirmations used without the help of the trance. The hypnotic trance opens our
subconscious mind to receive and absorb the affirmations and positive suggestions. I teach my
clients self-hypnosis.
Many individuals who have tried hypnotherapy report profound improvements in their daily
lives. Improvements are seen in social anxiety, sleep, recovery from trauma, athletic
performance, headaches, sleep, feelings of calm and peace, forgiveness, relationships, academic
performance/test-taking, surgery preparation and illness recovery. I, myself, needed help in my
life, and I discovered hypnotherapy over 30 years ago. After retiring as a Registered Nurse, I
now endeavor to “Pay it Forward” by sharing hypnotherapy with as many individuals as
possible—my life purpose.
As awareness and understanding of this practice grow, hypnotherapy is poised to become a
cornerstone in holistic mental health care--for many, it already is.
